University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center and Canandaigua, N.Y.-based Thompson Health have signed an official agreement making Thompson Health an affiliate of URMC.
The two organizations first discussed an affiliation in September 2011. Since then, URMC and Thompson Health have conducted due diligence and received board approvals involving administrative leaders, physicians and board members. According to the release, officials from both organizations feel the affiliation is "an extension of successful partnerships that already exist between the two health systems within many medical and surgical specialties."
Key elements of the affiliation agreement include:
• The parent corporation of Thompson Health will remain intact and continue to oversee and govern Thompson's subsidiary corporations.
• Thompson Health will continue to operate under the guidance and leadership of its existing board of directors comprised of members of the local community.
• The Thompson Health parent corporation will retain its own local president and CEO.
In addition, hundreds of Ontario County residents who are admitted to Rochester's Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y., each year will be able to receive the healthcare they need much closer to home at Thompson Health facilities, according to the release.
