Canandaigua, N.Y.-based Thompson Health and University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center are discussing a formal affiliation, according to a Fairport-East Rochester Post report.
The community health system and academic medical center would help each other deal with obstacles like reduced reimbursements, according to the report.
Thompson CEO Linda Farchione said URMC can provide certain levels of care not offered at Thompson, according to the report. The system provides primary and secondary levels of care, and URMC handles higher-level needs.
The parties are currently in the planning stages and say discussions could take months.
