Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System, based in Denver, has sold two of its Kansas-based hospitals — Providence Medical Center in Kansas City and Saint John Hospital in Leavenworth — to for-profit operator Prime Healthcare Services.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Prime Healthcare, based in Ontario, Calif., has committed to make several investments in Providence Medical Center and Saint John Hospital, including at least $10 million toward capital projects over the next five years as well as maintaining current acute care and emergency department services at both facilities for at least five years.
Prime Healthcare will also offer employment to "substantially all" employees, according to the news release.
SCL Health System executives said the current operating model with the two hospitals was "unsustainable" within today's healthcare economy.
