UCSF's board of supervisors' budget finance committee will consider committing to a 75-year lease on a 175,000-square-foot research facility set to be constructed atop a parking lot structure outside San Francisco General Hospital's former emergency room. The project will reportedly cost $200 million, according to the San Francisco Examiner.
Health officials said UCSF will fund the endeavor in its entirety at no cost to taxpayers.
University faculty will use the facility to conduct research in a variety of fields, including neurosurgery, neurology, orthopedics, radiology and nursing, among others, according to the article.
The university's board of supervisors is expected to vote on the lease next week.
