Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare has withdrawn its offer to purchase Christ Hospital in Jersey City, N.J., according to a Jersey Journal report.
Christ Hospital CEO Peter Kelly has said Prime took away its bid out of respect for community members, as many had voiced opposition to a for-profit takeover. He denied that Prime withdrew because of a California investigation into the system and alleged Medicare fraud.
Mr. Kelly did not disclose the next steps for the hospital, saying that is "a very good question," according to the report.
The hospital isn't at a loss for potential partners, however. Last week, Jersey Medical Center in partnership with Community Healthcare Associates made a $104 million bid for Christ Hospital.
