New Jersey state officials have said the pending sale of Christ Hospital in Jersey City to Prime Healthcare Services, a for-profit company based in Ontario, Calif., will not be complete by 2012, according to a report from The Jersey Journal.
The proposed sale was first announced this past summer. Prime had told Christ Hospital CEO Peter Kelly that it wanted the sale expedited and completed by 2012 or it could "terminate" the agreement.
State Deputy Attorney General Jay A. Ganzman has written a letter in which he said the sale will not be completed before the end of the year. City Clerk Robert Byrne is also opposed to an expedited sale.
A Christ Hospital spokesperson has indicated that the expedited deadline was an "internal goal" for the hospital. Whether it is met does not affect the sale, according to the report.
