North Kansas City (Mo.) Hospital officials have filed an injunction against the city of North Kansas and the city council to stop the sale of the hospital, according to a Fox 4 report.
When the North Kansas City Council voted to consider a sale or merger for the hospital and authorized Merrill Lynch to look into sale opportunities in June, it was a surprise to hospital officials. According to the report, Michael Montgomery, MD, chairman of the board of North Kansas City Hospital, believes the proposed sale has hindered the hospital's ability to hire new physicians. In addition, Dr. Montgomery told Fox 4 news that a Missouri state statute allows the hospital board to run the hospital even though the city technically owns the hospital.
City officials did not offer comment.
