Binghamton, N.Y.-based Lourdes Hospital has agreed to become a certified member of the MD Anderson Cancer Network, facilitated by the Houston-based MD Anderson Cancer Center, to offer local communities enhanced cancer care closer to home.
As a member of the MD Anderson Cancer Network, Lourdes physicians will have access to the MD Anderson physicians and resources and will be able to seek MD Anderson physicians' input on especially complex cases. Lourdes administrators believe increased access to MD Anderson's facilities and experienced medical staff will allow more residents in the Houston area to receive care closer to home.
"MD Anderson Cancer Network found in Lourdes a member hospital that shares our vision for elevating the standard of quality patient care and advancing innovative medicine in the Binghamton area," said William Murphy, MD, chair of the board of MD Anderson Cancer Network. "The Lourdes cancer program went through a rigorous evaluation to qualify as a member of the Cancer Network, and we found a great commitment to quality, cultural synergy and clinical compatibility. This collaboration brings a new dimension of care to the region."
