The proposed merger between Burlington, Mass.-based Lahey Clinic and Beverly, Mass.-based Northeast Health System has taken as step forward as the health systems filed documents outlining specific integration plans with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health last week, according to a report by The Salem News.
Under the proposed plans, "essential" services — including obstetrics, pediatrics, cancer, cardiac, senior and behavioral health services — at NHS' Beverly Hospital and Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, Mass., would be preserved for at least three years and all employees of the system would be kept on for at least one year, according to the report.
Both health systems are still performing due diligence but submitted the documents to begin the merger approval process. The Department of Health, along with the Federal Trade Commission and the Massachusetts Attorney General, must approve the deal before it can be finalized.
