Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, Ill., and Riverside Healthcare in Kankakee, Ill., have discontinued merger discussions roughly four months after signing a letter of intent to combine their organizations.
Although the organizations have ended formal merger discussions, they intend to continue to collaborate on ways to best serve patients in Iroquois County, according to the Daily Journal.
"With our campus in Watseka and facility in Gilman, we are committed to meet the healthcare needs of the region," Riverside President and CEO Phil Kambic said in a press release, according to the Daily Journal. "We will continue to work with officials at IMH to ensure we are serving the community in the most efficient way."
This is the second time Iroquois Memorial Hospital and a Kankakee hospital have ended merger talks. Iroquois Memorial Hospital explored a merger with Presence St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee in 2013, according to the report.
