Heywood Hospital in Gardner, Mass., and Athol (Mass.) Memorial Hospital have signed a letter of intent to form a strategic alliance.
Under the agreement, Heywood Hospital and Athol Memorial would be governed by a single board of trustees drawn from each organization's current board. The organizational structure would include a common administrative parent, and Winfield Brown, president and CEO of Heywood Hospital, would serve as president and CEO over the affiliated hospitals, according to a news release by the hospitals.
The hospitals will enter a period of due diligence to assess the feasibility of a formal affiliation. The due diligence period may take until the end of the calendar year to complete, according to the release.
