South Boston, Va.-based Halifax Regional Health System's board of directors has agreed to merge with Sentara Healthcare in Norfolk, Va.
HRHS includes a 192-bed hospital, three long-term care facilities, Halifax Home Health, Halifax Regional Hospice and a physician hospital enterprise. The health system announced its partnership search in April but no potential partners were disclosed.
According to the release, merging with Sentara will strengthen HRHS' physician and staff recruitment and retention efforts; enhance computer and technology upgrades, clinical services expansion and quality improvement initiatives; and enable the purchase of expensive supplies and equipment at a lower cost.
