Good Samaritan Health System in Lebanon, Pa., has finalized its partnership with WellSpan Health, based in York, Pa., after nearly a year of due diligence.
Goon Samaritan began seeking an affiliation partner in June 2013. In February 2014, Good Samaritan and WellSpan signed a memorandum of understanding to affiliate, and in December of last year the two organizations signed a definitive affiliation agreement.
Good Samaritan President and CEO Robert J. Longo showed excitement about the deal. "We are delighted to be joining WellSpan Health," he said in a news release. "In WellSpan, we have a partner who will help us continue to provide exceptional care in our community and also has the strength and expertise to navigate the many changes expected in this era of change."
WellSpan President and CEO Kevin Mosser, MD, shared Mr. Longo's enthusiasm about the transaction. "Partnering with Good Samaritan will help us in our efforts to achieve the scale and efficiencies needed to prepare our organization for the requirements of transforming healthcare in the future," he said in a news release.
Good Samaritan will continue to be governed by a local board of directors, which will have a relationship with the WellSpan board of directors. Mr. Longo will remain president of Good Samaritan Hospital and join WellSpan's senior management team as senior vice president.
With the addition of Good Samaritan, WellSpan will be comprised of five hospitals and have more than 12,500 employees.
