The Federal Trade Commission has "issued at least one subpoena" regarding a proposed merger between Mercy Hospital Hot Springs (Ark.) and National Park Medical Center, also in Hot Springs, though details surrounding the subpoenas and investigation have not been provided, according to an Arkansas Business report.
The FTC did not comment in the story, and both hospital systems said there is no new information to share.
Last November, Chesterfield, Mo.-based Mercy and Franklin, Tenn.-based Capella Healthcare signed an asset purchase agreement to merge the two hospitals under Capella's ownership.
The deal has received a lot of scrutiny since then. Vatican officials in Rome have voiced their displeasure with the deal, saying there are concerns with Mercy's hospital merging with the for-profit ownership.
