Chicago's Mercy Hospital and Medical Center is in talks to merge with Novi, Mich.-based Trinity Health — the same Catholic system that purchased Maywood, Ill.-based Loyola University Health System in July, according to a Crain's Detroit Business report.
The 479-bed Mercy confirmed "friendly" discussions with Trinity Health, but the hospital has not revealed what type of transaction is in discussion. According to the Crain's report, other sources have told the publication it's a merger, but Trinity declined comment.
Approximately 75 percent of Mercy's patients are on Medicaid or Medicare, and linking with Trinity would expand the South Side hospital's resources to handle an increase in patients and fund necessary facility upgrades.
