After California's attorney general denied its sale to Prime Healthcare Services Foundation, Victor Valley Community Hospital in Victorville, Calif., has announced it will shutter its doors in November if it doesn't find another partner, according to an Inland Valley Daily Bulletin report.
Ontario, Calif.-based Prime was blocked from buying Victor Valley by Attorney General Kamala Harris' office, which said the deal was "not in the public interest." Prime was the only operator to make a bid on the bankrupt hospital. The blocked sale has since forced Victor Valley to reduce its beds from 101 to 63 to reduce costs.
A hospital official said executives and the board of directors are scrambling to find a way to preserve Victor Valley. If it does close, it could have serious repercussions for other facilities in the area, which are "pretty full as it is," according to the report.
