Busy Month For Chicago Hospital M&A Activity

Hospitals in the Chicago area have recently experienced an uptick in merger and acquisition activity, with a number of hospitals agreeing to mergers or acquisitions in December and many more open to the idea of affiliation, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

The following hospitals and healthcare system developments were mentioned in the report:

• Oakbrook, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care is in talks with M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston about a partnership.
Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard Health Systems will buy Chicago's Holy Cross Hospital.
• After the Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic formed a research alliance with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, it said it remains open to partnerships with healthcare providers in the Chicago area.
Cleveland Clinic's cardiac surgery program signed an affiliation agreement with Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Ill.
