Altoona Regional Health System Continues Talks With Nason Hospital, Other Large Providers

Altoona (Pa.) Regional Health System and Nason Hospital in Roaring Spring, Pa., continue discussions aimed at developing an integrated, county-wide health system to serve the Blair County region.

Both organizations' boards approved and signed a memorandum of understanding, announced Aug. 2, authorizing the planning for a county-wide health system. An official agreement, which the organizations are still working toward, would need the approval of both boards as well.

According to an Altoona Mirror report, Altoona Regional has been talking with other potential partners in addition to continuing talks with Nason Hospital. Reportedly, the potential partners include University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Highmark in Pittsburgh and Geisinger Health System in Danville, Pa.

According to Altoona Regional Health's spokesperson, Dave Cuzzolina, the board has not set a deadline for making a partner decision. Spokespeople for UPMC, Highmark and Geisinger did not comment. A deadline for an agreement with Nason has not been set either and no details were released on whether Altoona Regional would partner with Nason Hospital as well as another larger partner.
