Waterbury (Conn.) Health Network, the parent company of Waterbury Hospital, has signed a letter of intent to develop a joint venture with Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard Health Systems, according to a Republic American report.
Waterbury Hospital had been developing a deal with the Catholic hospital St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury and LHP Hospital Group in Plano, Texas. While Waterbury Hospital officials approved the merger in April, they found it challenging to reach an agreement with St. Mary's over birth control and other reproductive procedures. LHP pulled out of the deal, and in October officials ultimately decided to forego the merger plans due to difficulties resolving women's healthcare services with ethical and religious directives of the Catholic Church, according to the report.
