1. Toledo-based ProMedica Health System said the Federal Trade Commission's new antitrust challenge of its acquisition of a 198-bed hospital is inconsistent with healthcare reform. ProMedica has been ordered to appear before an FTC administrative law judge for a May 31 trial in Washington, D.C.
2. Phoebe Putney Hospital, a non-profit hospital in Albany, Ga., plans to complete its acquisition of Palmyra Medical Center, a for-profit also in Albany, in February.
3. Kalamazoo-based Bronson Healthcare Group and Battle Creek (Mich.) Health System are currently working toward integrating, which could now include a partnership with Western Michigan University and Borgess Health, both located in Kalamazoo, to develop a medical school.
4. Irving Place Capital, a middle-market private equity firm, announced it will acquire National Surgical Hospitals, an owner and operator of 14 surgical hospitals and seven ambulatory surgery centers located in 10 states.

At least one physician practicing at Beaufort has said he will end his affiliation with the hospital if it moves forward with an affiliation with CHS.
