25-bed Ohio hospital to join WVU Hospital's network

Barnesville Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital in Belmont County, Ohio, will join WVU Hospitals and the West Virginia University Health System on June 1.

The two parties have signed a management and clinical affiliation agreement that will give Barnesville Hospital patients access to WVU's human, professional, clinical and physical resources.

Under the agreement, David Phillips, president and CEO of Barnesville Hospital, will become an employee of WVU Hospitals. He will remain president of Barnesville Hospital.

"We were looking for a partner to help us retain and strengthen our legacy of providing high quality services to our community, and we found that in WVU Medicine, which has already been providing care to hundreds of patients from Eastern Ohio, Northern West Virginia and the surrounding areas," said Mr. Philips. "Our patients will now have access to WVU Medicine's specialists and subspecialists right here in the Ohio Valley. Having that level of care right here at home is very important to us and our patients."

The Morgantown, W. Va.-based health system comprises nine hospitals and five institutes.
