January Issue. On behalf of Becker’s Healthcare, I wish you a healthy and happy start to 2015. I am excited to kick off the year with this issue, which has a special focus on leadership.
Population health, infection control, meaningfully integrating systems, big data — these are just some of the challenges facing hospitals this year. The editorial team took a look at 10 of the largest obstacles hospitals will face and asked experts how organizations can treat these challenges as opportunities. In the next few pages, you’ll find the annual list of “50 of the Most Powerful People in Healthcare,” which includes some of the most influential men and women from every sector of healthcare. I expect these individuals to continue making waves in 2015.
The issue contains a roundtable with four hospital and health system CEOs who discuss their New Year’s resolutions. The editorial team also set out to explore how health systems without accountable care organizations are succeeding at population health, whether the physician shortage is real, what health system and hospital CFOs are most worried about this year and how hospitals’ capital investments are evolving in a time when the industry is aiming to avoid hospitalizations.
The special leadership focus is celebrated in a number of stories, including a list of 10 things the smartest people in healthcare do, a leadership competency test, an assessment of whether your organization can survive as an independent hospital and an overview of the five core management mistakes that can result in a health system’s failure. The issue also contains a number of columns, including those from David Pate, JD, MD, president and CEO of St. Luke’s Health System, Chuck Lauer, former publisher of Modern Healthcare, and Editor-in-Chief Molly Gamble.
6th Annual Meeting and CIO Summit. Becker’s Hospital Review is hosting its 2015 Annual Meeting in Chicago, May 7-9. More than 150 hospital and health system executives are speaking at the event, which will feature
