The University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System this week launched a new physician rating system built into the health system's Find a Provider platform, according to Birmingham Business Journal.
Physicians listed in the online directory — who have a minimum of 30 patient-submitted surveys — will have reviews and ratings shown on their profiles through a five-star scale.
Star ratings are based on patient data collected using the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's Medical Practice Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey.
The same surveys are used for every provider and facility to ensure standardized results. Ratings, based on surveys from previous years, are updated on a monthly basis.
More than 81 percent of eligible physicians had a rating of at least four stars at the start of the program.
