Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services has merged with Hospice of The Gorge, effective Dec. 1, according to a Portland Business Journal report.
The hospice group will be renamed Providence Hospice of the Gorge. Under the agreement, Providence will transfer funds to Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital Foundation to create a hospice fund.
The deal expands Providences post-acute care offerings. Many hospitals around the country are looking to acquire hospice and home health groups in response to healthcare reform legislation, which includes a Medicare demonstration pilot for accountable care organizations.
