Nurses push for more security after Froedtert Hospital employee's death

Nurses in the Milwaukee area are pushing for more security measures in the wake of a brutal attack that killed a 33-year-old Froedtert Hospital nurse Jan. 25, according to WTMJ-TV Milwaukee.

Police found Carlie Beaudin, 33, trapped under a car and frozen in the hospital's parking structure just before 4 a.m. Jan. 25. She was transported to the hospital's trauma center but was pronounced dead a short time later, the report states.

Ms. Beaudin worked as a nurse practitioner in the department of medicine's division of hematology and oncology at the Medical College of Wisconsin and the Wauwatosa, Wis.-based hospital.

Some area nurses who reached out to WTMJ-TV under the condition of anonymity for fear of losing their jobs said Ms. Beaudin's death could have been avoided with better security at area hospitals.

"What happened to Carlie has terrified all of us area nurses. It could have happened to any of us. We are all shaken by this tragic situation that could have been avoided," one nurse said.

Froedtert Hospital told WTMJ-TV the hospital "has made security enhancements and will continue to make improvements."

Police charged Kenneth Freeman, 27, with first-degree homicide Jan. 28 for allegedly killing Ms. Beaudin, according to a second WTMJ-TV report.

According to a criminal complaint, Mr. Freeman was identified on surveillance footage brutally beating Ms. Beaudin. When questioned by police, Mr. Freeman told detectives he "deliberately and purely murdered Ms. Willa," but refused to provide any additional details.

Mr. Freeman is currently being held on $500,000 bail.
