New-patient wait times for dermatologists in 15 major cities

The average wait for a new patient seeking an appointment with a dermatologist in a major metropolitan area is 32.3 days, according to a recent survey conducted by Merritt Hawkins.

The survey was conducted between Jan. 9 and Feb. 13. Wait times reflect the average number of days a new patient would have to wait for an appointment for a routine skin exam for possible carcinomas or melanomas.

Here is how each of the cities surveyed stacks up, from longest to shortest average wait times for dermatologists.

Philadelphia — 78 days
Boston — 52 days
Denver — 51 days
Seattle — 42 days
Los Angeles — 35 days
Minneapolis — 30 days
Portland, Ore. — 30 days
San Diego — 30 days
Houston — 28 days
Detroit — 27 days
Dallas — 22 days
Washington, D.C. — 20 days
New York — 15 days
Atlanta — 13 days
Miami — 11 days
