Orlando, Fla.-based Nemours Children's Hospital will begin interviewing eligible candidates this fall for its first pediatric residency program, the health system said May 2, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
The three-year residency program was approved to accept 12 physicians per year and will begin in summer 2019, the health system said. Officials have yet to finalize some of the residency program's details, including finding a partner hospital with labor and delivery services for residents to train at, according to the report.
Nemours Children's Hospital's forthcoming pediatric residency program will be the third of its kind in Orlando. Orlando Health's Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children currently accepts 14 pediatric residents per year, while Orlando-based Florida Hospital accepts six, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Florida Hospital and Nemours are also reportedly planning to bring more advanced pediatric training opportunities to central Florida in the near future through the creation of new fellowship programs.
