Former USC gynecologist faces loss of medical license over sexual abuse charges

The medical license of George Tyndall, MD, a former University of Southern California gynecologist, is in jeopardy after formal state allegations of negligence and sexual misconduct, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The Medical Board of California has officially accused Dr. Tyndall of sexually abusing patients, the report states. The accusations are the latest against Dr. Tyndall and Los Angeles-based USC. Numerous women have alleged the physician sexually abused and harassed them and that USC knowingly covered up the conduct for decades.

On Oct. 19, USC reached a proposed settlement in a class-action lawsuit against the university and Dr. Tyndall. Various other lawsuits have been filed related to the scandal.

In the medical board's charges, Dr. Tyndall is accused of making lewd remarks to patients, performing "nonclinical" breast and pelvic exams, among other allegations, according to the report.

Dr. Tyndall has denied any wrongdoing during his time at the university, and he  defended his exams discussions with patients in interviews with the Los Angeles Times.

Peter Osinoff, the attorney representing Dr. Tyndall before the medical board, declined to comment to the publication.

According to the report, the physician voluntarily surrendered his license in August.
