The ACOG's Committee on Patient Safety and Quality Improvement stated that these specialized hospitalists provide a potential solution to achieving increased patient satisfaction while ensuring high quality care.
The trend of hiring obstetric-gynecologic hospitalists, often referred to as laborists, has increased in recent years. They provide support for physicians and midwives, treat unassigned patients and oversee the continuum of care for labor and delivery patients.
