63% of Physicians Say ACOs Will Have Negative Impact on Care

Sixty-three percent of physicians surveyed in a new AthenaHealth-Sermo report say they believe the shift to accountable care organizations will have a negative impact on quality of care. More than half of the physicians surveyed believe quality of care will decrease over the next five years.

Other findings from the report, which asked 500 physicians questions on topics ranging from government regulation to electronic health records to quality of care to compliance issues, include:
  • 53 percent of the physicians see the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as detrimental to high-quality care;
  • 42 percent are confident the transition to ICD-10 will be smooth;
  • 73 percent say EHRs are a distraction to interacting with the patient;
  • 89 percent say payors have become more intrusive on the patient-physician relationship.
