Nurses at MidState Medical Center in Meriden, Conn., picketed outside the hospital last week to protest pensions and pay, according to a Record Journal news release.
The approximately 340 nurses are represented by Connecticut Health Care Associates, part of the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees. The union is working to negotiate a new contract with the hospital. The nurses' previous contract expired Sept. 30.
The union is at odds with the hospital's plan to transition nurses' defined-benefit pensions into defined contribution plans as well as salary increases.
