Media reports indicate President Donald Trump is putting pressure on HHS Secretary Alex Azar to help the administration deliver on healthcare ahead of the 2020 election.
The New York Times first reported a call between President Trump and Mr. Azar, which occurred after the president reviewed polling data that showed voters are more likely to trust Democrats than Republicans on healthcare. President Trump is "acutely aware that healthcare is a political vulnerability for him," wrote Maggie Haberman, White House correspondent for The New York Times.
The Washington Post reported that President Trump "lashed out" at Mr. Azar over the phone over drug prices. He reportedly asked the health secretary to "hurry up" and lower drug prices and to fast-track a Canadian drug importation proposal.
The proposed rule was issued in December and is currently open for comment, according to the Post.
