Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa, Fla., has eliminated the equivalent of 30 jobs, according to a Tampa Tribune report.
All departments were affected in the recent round of cuts, which affected 20 full-time jobs, including one physician. Work hours were reduced for another 15 employees and two nonsurgical physicians, which amount to another 10 positions being cut.
The layoffs stem from Shriners' plan to move away from its traditional funding by charity endowments, which are now shrinking. Shriners' 22 facilities now file claims for Medicaid and private payor reimbursements.
