Dover, N.J.-based Saint Clare's Health System has confirmed plans to transition its 106-bed hospital in Sussex, N.J., to an outpatient center and lay off up to 31 employees in the process, according to a New Jersey Herald report.
The system is waiting for state officials to approve the plan. It has notified employees of the potential layoffs, which are expected to occur in June, but hospital officials say the figure is lower than estimated. It originally expected to cut 55 of its 167 employees.
The board of Saint Clare's recently reached an agreement with St. Louis-based Ascension Health Care Network to take over the system from Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives. A definitive agreement is expected by June 30, according to the report.
