Penn Medicine and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, both in Philadelphia, are joining together to create a leadership program for healthcare executives, the organizations announced Oct. 29.
Here are three things to know:
1. Penn Medicine and Wharton Executive Education are working together on the Leadership in a New Era of Health Care program, which is designed for executive leaders in healthcare and academic medicine.
2. The program's first four-day course will begin in March 2019 and provide participants with targeted leadership development experiences and practical skills. The program will be led by faculty from Wharton and Penn Medicine, with presentations from an array of chief executives, hospital and medical school leaders, and department chairs from across the nation.
3. J. Larry Jameson, MD, PhD, executive vice president of Penn Medicine and dean of the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, said in a news release such programs are the hallmark of Penn Medicine.
"Healthcare leaders today need a broader skill set: They must be strong negotiators, keen students of business and have the emotional intelligence necessary to lead diverse teams who are evolving our approaches to patient-centric care and ensuring that our health systems continue to thrive in an era of some uncertainty for our field," Dr. Jameson said.
