North Carolina's Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Releases Plans for Cancer Center Addition

Wake Forest Baptist (N.C.) Medical Center released its plans for a $125 million comprehensive cancer center, according to a Winston-Salem Journal report.

The six-story center, which would be completed in early 2014, would have 192 oncology inpatient beds and a courtyard on the upper floors. It would also be the first free-standing cancer hospital in that region. Twenty-four intensivists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants will be joining the cancer center's staff.

This is the third time Wake Forest Baptist has attempted to expand its cancer center, but the recession and lack of funding delayed the initial plans.
