More than 3,000 nurses with National Nurses United, the largest registered nurses union in the county, gathered in Chicago last weekend to call for a tax on financial speculation, also known as the Robin Hood tax.
The Robin Hood tax is a sales tax on Wall Street trades that involve market speculation, and such a tax would bring in an estimated $350 billion to help the economy, hospitals and other community-based needs, according to the NNU.
Deborah Burger, RN, NNU's co-president, said she has been a nurse for 38 years and has "never seen our communities in such disarray." NNU has a total of 170,000 nurse members nationwide.
