Massachusetts Nurses Assoc. Files Complaint Against Baystate Franklin Medical Center

The Massachusetts Nurses Association as filed an unfair labor practices complaint with the National Labor Relations Board against Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, Mass., and a strike-authorization vote is scheduled for today, according to a report from The Republican.

The MNA — which represents 209 nurses at Baystate Franklin — and the hospital have been at odds over contracts since negotiations began in October. Contracts expired in the spring, according to the report.

The union was prompted to file a complaint when it says a negotiation meeting that was scheduled to end at 4 p.m. came to a close two hours early. A hospital spokesperson denied that allegation.

"Despite claims by the Massachusetts Nurses Association that Baystate walked out on negotiations, the meeting concluded after both sides mutually agreed to two dates for additional bargaining sessions, Sept.19 and 27," said Amy H. Swisher, Baystate Franklin spokesperson.
