Mark Bogen, CFO and senior vice president of finance at Oceanside, N.Y.-based South Nassau Communities Hospital, has been named a recipient of the Long Island Business News' CFO of the Year Award.
Here are nine things to know about Mr. Bogen and the award.
1. This is the second consecutive year for Mr. Bogen to be named a recipient of the award.
2. He is a recipient of the award in the category for nonprofit organizations.
3. According to a news release, the award program recognizes the top financial officers in Long Island, N.Y., "for their fiscal leadership and asset management, contributions to their company's performance, their contribution and commitment to their profession and organizations as well as their involvement in the community."
4. Hospital accomplishments under Mr. Bogen's guidance include an upgraded bond rating (from BBB+ to A-) from Fitch Ratings. Additionally, without investment income the hospital's operating profit for 2014 was approximately $4.1 million, $3 million above budget and $2 million better than in 2013, according to a news release.
5. The hospital said South Nassau has also been positioned to capitalize on opportunities to expand regionally and continue to renovate and add new services to its main campus in Oceanside, thanks to the financial stability South Nassau has maintained under Mr. Bogen's leadership.
6. Mr. Bogen has more than 35 years of experience in healthcare financial operations.
7. Before he joined South Nassau, he was a director at Besler Consulting, a nationally recognized healthcare financial consulting firm.
8. He graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a Bachelor of Science in management.
9. He is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants; the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; the Healthcare Financial Management Association; and the Healthcare Compliance Association.
