Landmark Medical Center Lays Off 31 Following Merger With Prime

Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, R.I., has laid off 31 people, including staff involved in management, administration and patient care, according to a Providence Journal report.

A hospital spokesperson said the cuts were necessary to protect the hospital's long-term viability, according to the report. Roughly half of the laid-off employees were union members.

Landmark recently signed an asset purchase agreement with Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services.

Landmark's CMO, Robert S. Crausman, MD, also stepped down recently. He said the hospital "has a secure future" with Prime and that he "accomplished everything I wanted to do there," according to the report.
