Hospitals and health systems, like Boston-based Partners HealthCare, Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare and others represent the biggest employers in 13 states, according to data obtained by Visual Capitalist.
Visual Capitalist cited data from 24/7 Wall St., which reviewed media releases, government data, business journals and other sources to analyze employment figures for nonprofits and privately and publicly held companies.
Here are 13 states in which healthcare providers represent the largest employers:
- Alaska — Providence Health & Services (Renton, Wash.)
- Utah — Intermountain Healthcare (Salt Lake City)
- Oregon — Providence Health & Services
- Idaho — St. Luke's Health System (Boise)
- North Dakota — Sanford Health (Sioux Falls, S.D.)
- South Dakota — Avera Health (Sioux Falls)
- Minnesota — Mayo Clinic (Rochester)
- Pennsylvania — University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
- Delaware — Christiana Care Health System (Wilmington)
- Connecticut — Yale New Haven Health System
- Rhode Island — Lifespan (Providence)
- Massachusetts — Partners HealthCare (Boston)
- Vermont — University of Vermont Medical Center (Burlington)
