After an election last week, Workers at El Camino Hospital in Mountainview, Calif., will keep their union — Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West — according to a Palo Alto Daily News report.
Roughly 80 percent of nearly 1,200 eligible workers voted 599-357 to keep SEIU-UHWW.
While the election took place Jan. 5, ballots weren't tallied until this past Tuesday due to a rules violation. The union had since filed a complaint with the Public Employment Relations Board over that matter, claiming El Camino administrators bullied and intimidated state workers in charge of the election process, causing them to delay the tally.
A hospital spokesperson has said the union did not accurately portray the situation and the timing of the vote-count was ultimately up to the State Mediation & Conciliation Service, the agency that supplied the allegedly "bullied" workers.
