Detroit Medical Center eliminates 22 positions

Detroit Medical Center confirmed it eliminated 22 full-time, part-time and contingent positions, including 14 nurse practitioners and physician assistants and an additional eight open positions.

DMC spokesperson Melanie Moss told Crain's Detroit Business the 22 job cuts were for "better care coordination." She added, "It is a small percentage of our 12,000 employees."

The layoffs took place days before DMC announced a new integrated executive management team would serve three Detroit hospitals — DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women's Hospital. The three-hospital executive team includes a COO, CFO and CMO, led by CEO Scott Steiner.

A Crain's Detroit Business analysis found DMC laid off or left vacant more than 325 positions over the last three years.
