Community Howard Regional Health to Lay Off 50

Kokomo, Ind.-based Community Howard Regional Health plans to cut 50 full-time equivalent positions from its workforce, according to a Kokomo Tribune report.

The hospital is cutting staff because of lower patient volumes and reductions in Medicare and private payer reimbursements, according to the report.

"This was an extremely difficult business decision but one that had to be made for the long-term future of healthcare in our community," said Jim Alender, the hospital's president, according to the Kokomo Tribune.

The layoffs will happen over the next few weeks, according to the report. In total, the cuts represent 4 percent of Community Howard's workforce.
