Atul Gawande, MD, the CEO of the Amazon-Berkshire Hathaway-JPMorgan Chase healthcare venture, is hiring a small team, according to Warren Buffett, chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway.
"[Dr. Gawande is] hiring people," Mr. Buffett told Bloomberg Television. "Not very many people, but he will be hiring people."
Mr. Buffett also said he didn't know how the company would ultimately try to bend the healthcare cost curve but that "the answer is get the smartest people working on it — and we've got a terrific leader on that — and basically give them free reign."
The complexity of the industry means it will take awhile to make changes, according to Mr. Buffett. "We're not in a hurry," he said. "We'd like to be in a hurry, but we're not going to try and do something faster than it can be done."
