Bel Air, Md.-based Upper Chesapeake Health and the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center in Baltimore announced they have signed an affiliation agreement to enhance cancer care services.
The announcement follows two years of collaborative planning, during which Upper Chesapeake Health has strengthened its cancer services and expanded clinical trial opportunities, according to the release. Upper Chesapeake Health added specialists in cancer and blood disorders, and partnered with Maryland Hematology and Oncology Associates in 2011.
Upper Chesapeake Health will integrate expanded cancer care services through its new $60 million Patricia D. and M. Scot Kaufman Cancer Center at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, which it began building in November 2011 and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2013.
Upper Chesapeake Health's affiliation with the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center, which is located at the University of Maryland Medical Center, will provide access to comprehensive cancer services in this one location.
The new affiliation agreement also builds on a strategic affiliation Upper Chesapeake Health and the University of Maryland Medical System entered into in 2009. The organizations are expected to fully merge in the future, according to the release.
