St. Louis-based Mercy announced the United Arab Emirates Embassy has given a $5 million gift to fund a pediatric section at the new Mercy Hospital Joplin (Mo.).
The gift from UAE Ambassador to the United States Yousef Al Otaiba will create an entire floor dedicated to pediatric care and will feature the hospital's first neonatal intensive care unit.
The permanent new hospital is currently being built while clinicians and staff continue to provide services at a temporary hospital in Joplin. The previous facility, St. John's Regional Medical Center, was destroyed last year in a tornado
