Study: Increase of CT Scans in ED Associated With Decrease in Hospitalizations

A study published in Annals of Emergency Medicine links an increase in CT scans in the emergency department to reductions in hospitalizations, according to a news release.

The researchers found CT use in the ED increased from 3.2 percent of patient visits to 13.9 percent; in the same time period, the rate of hospitalization after the CT scan decreased from 26 percent to 12.1 percent.
