New $145M Golisano Children's Hospital in New York Breaks Ground

The University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center announced the ground breaking of its new $145 million Golisano Children's Hospital.

The 245,000-square-foot facility will be attached to the medical center and Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. The hospital will include 52 private patient rooms, an expanded neonatal intensive care unit and a new hospitality suite for parents to shower, eat and do laundry. The project is expected to be completed in 2015.

In addition to the new building, Golisano Children's Hospital is continuing a $100 million campaign launched in October 2011 to enhance pediatric programs. The campaign is part of the University of Rochester Medical Center's $650 million campaign and the University of Rochester's Meliora Challenge, a $1.2 billion campaign to enhance the university's programs and services. The challenge is based on the university's motto, "meliora," meaning "ever better."
