Hospital Industry Leader to Know: Peggy Troy of Children's Hospital and Health System

As CEO of Children's Hospital and Health System in Milwaukee, Wis., Peggy Troy has a clear mission: to provide the best possible care for children facing enormous physical challenges.

"The way I look at it is, children unfortunately get sick," she said in an interview with The Business Journal of Milwaukee. "Knowing that I am able to be there, helping them get the very best care, helps me put that into perspective."

Prior to joining Children's Hospital and Health System, Ms. Troy served as the COO of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, Tenn. As COO of Methodist, Ms. Troy helped to oversee two academic medical centers, four community hospitals, a long-term care facility and over 1,600 licensed beds. She came to Children's Hospital well-prepared for the effects of the economic recession, having dealt with a tight budget at Methodist.

Although Children's Hospital opened a 12-story, $168 million patient tower in March 2009, increased patient load means that the hospital must expand further. "We desperately need to expand our surgery area; our operating rooms don't have enough room for the high demand for our services," Ms. Troy told The Business Journal. "We have some real pressure to expand that area, but the economic downturn is going to cause us to accomplish that within our current physical environment."

Ms. Troy also served as CEO of Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center for three years and filled leadership positions at Cook Children's Medical Center in Forth Worth, Texas. She earned her master of science in nursing from DePaul University in Chicago.
